Ocean Springs dispatcher walks for cancer funds

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — An Ocean Springs woman is training for a 39.3-mile walk to raise money for cancer victims.

Jenni Mizell says her effort was prompted by the death of her best friend two years ago.

Mizell said her friend, Tane Bosarge, died of lung cancer after a struggle that included worries about her ability to afford co-payments for treatment.

WLOX-TV reports (http://bit.ly/Wxpz7v ) that Mizell will be walking next month in the Avon Foundation "Walk for Breast Cancer" in Houston. A "silent auction' Saturday at "The Shed" restaurant also was part of the fundraising effort.

Mizell, an Ocean Springs police dispatcher, said the training is greatly improving her own health.

She's dropped 35 pounds in the process, something she's certain her best friend would have smiled about.
