WVU Hospitals seeks state OK to buy cancer center

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — WVU Hospitals is seeking the state's approval to acquire a cancer center in Fairmont.

The Dominion Post (http://bit.ly/o6b1OH ) reports that the hospital system has applied for a certificate of need from the West Virginia Health Care Authority to buy the Fairmont Regional Cancer Center from Oncology Services Inc. The acquisition would cost $11 million. WVU Hospitals also would spend about $3 million to buy and install treatment equipment.

The authority is expected to make a decision in mid-April.

The cancer center is located on the campus of Fairmont General Hospital.
