COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) has rejected a plea for mercy from a condemned killer scheduled to be executed next week for fatally shooting an adult bookstore security guard.
Kasich followed the state parole board's recommendation in rejecting the clemency request of Frederick Treesh on Thursday.
Treesh is scheduled to be executed Wednesday for fatally shooting 58-year-old Henry Dupree during an August 1994 robbery in Eastlake.
Treesh's attorneys described him as a cocaine addict who was high during the robbery and is deeply sorry for what happened.
Prosecutors contend Treesh intentionally murdered Dupree during an increasingly violent three-week, multi-state crime spree. Authorities say he tried to kill police officers during a pursuit and was connected to a killing at a Michigan video store two days before Dupree's death.
