ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Flu-related deaths in Minnesota continue to rise, even as the influenza season wanes.
The Minnesota Department of Health said Thursday another 17 flu-related deaths were confirmed last week. That brings the number of flu-related deaths in Minnesota to 165 since the start of this flu season.
Minnesota Public Radio News (http://bit.ly/XFXMFA) reports Minnesota's flu outbreak peaked in January and since then flu activity has declined sharply. Health officials say last week 31 people were hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed flu. That compares with hundreds of people per week during the height of the flu outbreak.
Only two long-term care facilities in Minnesota had confirmed flu outbreaks last week. And four Minnesota schools reported outbreaks of influenza-like illness.
