PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona House of Representatives wants police officers to be better prepared when handling mentally ill people.
A measure passed unanimously by the House Thursday would require police cadets to attend a three-hour training session on how to recognize and handle a mentally ill or suicidal person.
The training must be certified by the director of the state Department of Health Services.
Police officers would be required to attend a 30-minute training class.
