NEW YORK (AP) — The son of a woman whose dismembered remains were found in trash bags on New York City streets has been arrested, along with another man.

But police said Wednesday it's still unclear who killed 45-year-old Tanya Byrd.

Her 23-year-old son, Bashid McLean, and an acquaintance of his, 26-year-old William Harris, have been arrested on charges of unlawfully dissecting a human body and hindering prosecution — but not on murder or manslaughter charges.

Investigators believe the two men are involved with Tanya Byrd's slaying, but it's unclear as yet what part they played.

It isn't immediately clear whether the suspects have lawyers. No phone numbers could be found for their homes.

The remains were found Tuesday in the Bronx. A man walking his dog found the first bag.
