COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio's latest ratings of public school performance will land with more of a thud than a bang this year.
That's because most elements of the 2011-2012 report cards for the state's 614 traditional public school districts have been delayed for months because of a statewide attendance tampering investigation.
The Ohio Department of Education plans to release two final elements of the report cards Wednesday: the overall performance index for each district and building; and the "value-added" measure that rates students' annual academic growth.
Ohio's performance index scale ranges from academic emergency to excellent with distinction. A traditional A-through-F scale is being phased in beginning next year.
Rankings for about 80 districts with apparent irregularities will be flagged as the department re-examines their attendance data.
