HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A man accused of placing $70 million in unwanted charges on phone bills nationwide has been sentenced to four years' probation on a separate charge related to a federal medical marijuana crackdown.
U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen handed down the sentence Tuesday to 58-year-old Steven Sann of Lolo.
Sann pleaded guilty to conspiracy to maintain a drug-involved premises. He was involved in a medical marijuana operation with former University of Montana quarterback Jason Washington that had more than 1,000 plants in a Missoula warehouse.
Prosecutors say Sann originally owned the facility.
The Federal Trade Commission filed a civil lawsuit against Sann, his wife, son and accountant for allegedly running companies that placed $70 million in charges on phone bills.
The Sanns through their lawyer say the businesses were legitimate.
