KINDER, La. (AP) — The Allen Parish Hospital will close its emergency department March 1.
Dr. Patrick Robinson, the hospital administrator, tells KPLC-TV (http://bit.ly/Zq9bs2) that the hospital isn't admitting enough patients and has been losing money for six months.
He says that cutting costs by closing the emergency room will allow Allen Parish Hospital to stem losses. Robinson says the emergency room is subsidized by other patient revenue.
Robinson says he hopes to open an after-hours clinic for patients who need care after hospital hours.
