NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Comedian and actor Anthony Anderson sheds his funnyman persona to play a tattoo-faced, gun-wielding thug, and Christopher Walken plays an insightful homeless beggar.

Both are part of the cast of "The Power of Few," an independent action-drama making its limited-release debut on Friday. The film also stars Christian Slater, Jesse Bradford and rapper Juvenile, who is a New Orleans native.

Anderson, star of the NBC sitcom "Guys With Kids," tells The Associated Press the main reason he took the part was its departure from the comedic roles for which he's known.

"The Power of Few" opens in select theaters in Los Angeles, New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La., on Friday. It is expected to open in other markets in coming weeks.
