Snow closes Calif. highway, schools

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The California Highway Patrol says a 35-mile stretch of Highway 58 between Mojave and Bakersfield remains closed and officers will check the road to see when they might be able to reopen it.

Students in several areas of Southern California, including Hesperia, are getting a day off Wednesday because of snow.

CHP officers have re-closed Interstate 5 on the Grapevine because of snow. It is also snowing sporadically in Cajon Pass but it is still open.

Hundreds of vehicles had to stop when Highway 58 was closed after the weather quickly turned white around 8 p.m. Tuesday. Road crews helped drivers exit near Tehachapi.

The CHP says no one has been injured and nobody is trapped in the snow.
