PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona lawmakers want to require teachers to report students who might be a danger to others.
The measure is part of a public safety overhaul that seeks to make Arizonans safer.
A House committee also advanced legislation Wednesday that would require training for police officers and cadets on how to handle seriously mentally ill or violent suspects.
A third bill advanced by the Public Safety Committee would make it harder for governments to ban guns in public places. Proponents say people need guns to protect themselves from mentally ill people.
All three measures were introduced by Republican Rep. John Kavanagh.
Kavanagh says he wants to help combat tragedies like the deadly shooting rampage in 2011 that left six people dead and 13 wounded outside a Tucson grocery store.
