AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Work is getting started at the site of a racino slated to open near Youngstown in the spring of 2014.
Crews plan to finish clearing and leveling off the 190 acre site near Interstate 80 in the next three weeks.
The Hollywood Slots at Mahoning Valley Race Course in Austintown will have both horse racing and video lottery terminals that are like slot machines.
The Vindicator newspaper in Youngstown (http://bit.ly/Vpb76R ) says permits are still needed before the actual construction can begin.
One racino in the state at Scioto Downs in Columbus is already operating. Six others are in various stages of licensing and construction.
An anti-gambling group is challenging Ohio Gov. John Kasich's (KAY'-siks) authority to allow the video lottery terminals at the horse tracks.
