DEER LODGE, Mont. (AP) — An 88-year-old Deer Lodge woman suffering from severe dementia died of exposure after wandering from her home.

Powell County Sheriff Scott Howard told The Montana Standard (http://bit.ly/VmOzko) that the woman was reported missing between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. Friday. Searchers found her body about four blocks away from her home at about 8:30 a.m.

Howard says the woman likely died of hypothermia.

Howard says she lived with family members, but somehow managed to get through barriers they set up to keep her from wandering.

Her name was being withheld while family members are notified.
