PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A former University of Maine ice hockey player is joining a class-action lawsuit that claims the National Collegiate Athletic Association has failed to adequately address and prevent concussions.
Kyle Solomon, who's now 25, is the first hockey player to join the suit. The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/XExdwp ) says Solomon, of Southampton, N.Y., was a member of the Black Bear hockey team from 2008 to 2010. He left the team in the middle of his sophomore season after suffering a series of head injuries.
Solomon this week added his name to a lawsuit filed in September 2011 in U.S. District Court in Northern Illinois. The suit also includes two former football players and a soccer player from other schools.
Solomon has continued his studies at UMaine but says the effects of his concussions have been debilitating.
