Washington's 'presidential library' taking shape

MOUNT VERNON, Va. (AP) — A $47 million library dedicated to promoting the ideals of George Washington and scholarship about the founding father is scheduled to open in September.

Washington's Mount Vernon estate is set Friday to announce the opening date.

The center will serve as a presidential library of sorts, but it will not be a part of the National Archives, as is the case for modern presidential libraries.

It will also be home for a rotating group of scholars who will live at the estate and study various topics related to the founding fathers and Washington's life.

The library also plans to host conference groups that want to hold their events in a historic setting.
