COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina social services and health officials are talking about a new initiative they hope will promote healthy eating and activity among children at daycare.

The directors of the Departments of Social Services and Health and Environmental Control are holding a news conference Wednesday at La Petite Academy in Columbia.

Officials are rolling out new voluntary standards under the ABC Child Care Program.

That program pays for low-income families to get care for kids through age 12 while the parents work or go to school or job training. The program is voluntary, and child care providers are paid through a voucher program.
