JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi House passed a bill Wednesday to help children with speech disorders.
House Bill 896 would help children with speech disorders like stuttering, difficulty producing certain sounds and other impairments by providing them with scholarships to attend schools with special instruction. It would also ensure all children are screened for the disorders at a young age.
The bill would also create a Speech-Language Pathologists Education Scholarship Program.
Rep. Nick Bain, the Democrat from Corinth, says he suffered from a speech disorder as a child.
Bain says it was frustrating. He says his mother told him that that he would one day stand in front of a microphone and they're all hear his words.
