LOS ANGELES (AP) — There's word of a shootout in Southern California's San Bernardino Mountains -- involving police and a man believed to be the former Los Angeles police officer who is wanted in connection with three killings.

A law enforcement official says a man believed to be Christopher Dorner committed a burglary at a cabin, and had a couple tied up there. One was able to get away and make a call. Authorities responded, and gave chase when the man believed to be Dorner fled in a stolen vehicle. Gunfire was exchanged.

The area is in the Big Bear region, where a search for Dorner has been under way since his pickup truck was found there on Thursday.
