ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Officials at an Asheville hospital there is no sign of infection in several post-operative patients who developed a rash.

Mission Health issued a statement Tuesday saying the rashes appear to be caused by pressure, friction, and immobility

The hospital says the blisters are only skin-deep. Spokeswoman Rowena Buffett Timms says there is no evidence of any spread from person-to-person.

The hospital says the rash has been reported in far less than 1 percent of the 1,800 surgery patients at the hospital since Feb. 1.

The hospital says the patients who have had problems are being treated and released normally.

The hospital said it had two dermatologists and an infectious disease physician review the cases.
