MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. (AP) — Beginning April 1, smoking will be banned in parks, playgrounds and other outdoor public venues in Marshall County.

But a section in these venues can be designated for smokers, with the health department's approval.

The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register (http://bit.ly/Xl7DA3 ) reports that the Marshall County Board of Health unanimously voted Friday to expand its smoking ban. The change also bans smoking in hotel and motel rooms.

Board members say the regulation is being expanded to protect children from secondhand smoke.
