MIDLOTHIAN, Texas (AP) — The family of a man slain at a Texas shooting range defended the notion of helping troubled war veterans through target practice.
Relatives of Chad Littlefield spoke Friday after his funeral in Midlothian, southwest of Dallas. Investigators say Littlefield and his friend, former Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle, were killed at a shooting range by a former Marine they were trying to help work through post-traumatic stress disorder.
Littlefield's father-in-law, Tom Montgomery, says the outing was supposed to be a "therapeutic situation." He says Kyle regularly took veterans to the shooting range, and that Littlefield often assisted in efforts to help veterans.
Hundreds of people attended the funeral for Littlefield. The 35-year-old married father was remembered for his bedrock character.
