GEORGETOWN, Texas (AP) — A former district attorney says he can't remember being in possession of any evidence that could have prevented the wrongful murder conviction of a man who spent nearly 25 years in prison as a result.
A court of inquiry is examining if Ken Anderson acted improperly in 1987 when he prosecuted Michael Morton in his wife's beating death.
Morton was released in 2011 after new DNA testing showed that he didn't kill his wife.
Anderson is now a judge.
In a videotaped deposition shown Tuesday in a Central Texas courtroom, Anderson says he doesn't know if he ever had any documents showing that Morton's son said a "monster," and not his father, committed the crime.
The then-3-year-old boy witnessed his mother's death.
