DALLAS (AP) — The mother of the Iraq War veteran charged with killing a former Navy SEAL sniper and his friend at a Texas shooting range had told a 911 operator in September that her son had threatened to kill himself and others.

In the call to the operator in Lancaster, Jodi Routh said Eddie Ray Routh was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. She said he "probably needs to go to the VA to the emergency room and they need to admit him to the mental ward." Later, she said one of her son's Marine Corps buddies had taken weapons from the house for safekeeping.

The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/UvzQps ) obtained a recording of the call Tuesday.

Eddie Routh is charged with murdering former Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle and his friend Saturday.
