Fla. lawmakers look for partners in state exchange

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Florida lawmakers heard from two potential partners in running a state health exchange.

A Senate and House committee tasked with implementing the federal health overhaul met together for the first time Monday.

Florida has missed the deadline to run its own online marketplace where people can shop for health coverage, but lawmakers are considering whether they want to run their own in the future or partner with the feds.

Florida Healthy Kids Corporation coordinates coverage for roughly 300,000 children and is responsible for selecting plans, collecting premiums and determining eligibility.

Lawmakers questioned the CEO of that company and the head of Florida Health Choices about working together on an exchange in the future.
