BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A 6-year-old girl from New York has emptied her savings box to help a herd of North Dakota horses suffering from neglect.

Madi Georgia of Whitney Point, N.Y., had been saving the money because she wanted to buy a dolphin, but was upset when she heard about the plight of the North Dakota horses.

Authorities in Morton County seized 199 horses and officials in Burleigh County confiscated 38 horses, after the two agencies discovered 99 dead horses.

The money in Madi's box came to $177. It was sent to Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue, where 25 of the sick horses were taken earlier this week.

Madi's mother, Rachelle Frost, tells the Bismarck Tribune (http://bit.ly/XWc1SY) that a thank-you note from Triple H nearly brought her daughter to tears.
