LITTLE FALLS, N.J. (AP) — A commuter train has struck a tractor-trailer in northern New Jersey, injuring 10 people, two of them seriously.

NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. says the train was carrying 71 passengers and crew when it hit the back of the trailer at the Little Falls crossing at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The seriously injured include an NJ Transit employee and a school crossing guard who authorities say was hit by debris.

Durso says the truck driver was backing up after failing to make a tight turn when the crossing gates came down. The truck driver was not seriously injured.

The trailer was hauling paint. Dozens of buckets are strewn around the scene.

Durso says it's too early to tell whether the accident will cause afternoon delays on the Montclair-Boonton Line.
