VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) — The Coast Guard says oil spilled from at least one of two oil barges that were heavily damaged when they hit a railroad bridge over the Mississippi River at Vicksburg.

Petty Officer Carlos Vega said he doesn't know how much oil has leaked, or how much the barges carried. He says federal, state and local authorities were heading there to assess damage after the hit early Sunday.

Vega said the Oil Spill Response Organization, the federal Environmental Protection Agency, and state and local authorities were on the way.

Vega said the Coast Guard received a call about the hit at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, and that the bridge has been inspected and is safe for trains.
