COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police in Ohio's capital city say a new, free smartphone application allows the public to send in crime tips and get responses from officers in an anonymous process.
A statement from Columbus police Deputy Chief Jeffrey Blackwell says the app announced last week could help officers reach a younger demographic, improve neighborhood safety and save the agency time and resources.
Police say the process is anonymous because it uses technology that removes identifying information before police see messages.
The department says the "Columbus PD Tips" app can be downloaded through iTunes and Google Play for iPhone and Android devices.
