SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Marion County health officials are advising residents to be aware of possible measles symptoms after seeing the first case since 2000.

The Statesman Journal reports (http://stjr.nl/14cZSPO ) it's a 5-year-old boy who was in the county from last Friday through Wednesday when he was diagnosed at a Portland hospital.

County health officials say he had traveled internationally. New local cases are rare because 95 percent of people in the region have been vaccinated.

People who are not immunized could have been exposed if they had contact with the boy. He reportedly was at the Keizer Station mall on Sunday and a drug store in Salem on Tuesday.
