BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A new survey shows that nearly 450 high school athletes in Idaho missed practice time or games last fall because of confirmed or potential concussions.

The survey by the Boise-based Idaho High School Activities Association and includes data from only 45 percent of the high schools that responded.

Football was by far the leading sport for missed games and practice. Results show 307 football players were held out of action based on reporting of 68 schools.

The Idaho Statesman reports that (http://bit.ly/10JFXDD ) girls soccer ranked second, followed by boys soccer and volleyball.

IHSAA Executive Director John Billetz says the data will help establish a baseline for tracking changes and trends. The information will also help the IHSAA decide if more training and precautions are necessary for certain sports.
