3 semifinalists picked for OH Holocaust memorial

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The committee choosing the artist to create a Holocaust memorial on the Ohio Statehouse grounds has narrowed the list to three semifinalists.

They're Ann Hamilton of Columbus, Daniel Libeskind (LEE'-bih-skihnd) of New York and Jaume (JAW'-may) Plensa, a Spanish artist with representation in Chicago. They'll visit the planned memorial site and then have about six weeks to prepare proposals before presenting them to the panel for a decision.

The executive director of the Ohio Arts Council says the semifinalists were chosen Thursday from among about 80 applicants. The selection panel includes representatives from government, the arts and the Jewish community.

Private donations will fund the $2 million project pushed by Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik). It's expected to be the first Holocaust memorial at any statehouse in the nation.
