MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (AP) — A St. Louis-area man is facing charges for allegedly scamming an elderly dementia patient out of thousands of dollars.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/11TxSkz ) reports that 38-year-old Jeremy McClellan of St. Peters is charged with financial exploitation of an elderly or disabled person. He is jailed on $100,000 cash-only bond.
Maryland Heights police say the 88-year-old victim is a widow who lives alone and suffers from senile dementia. Relatives became suspicious when they noticed her car was missing, though it was later found. They began looking through financial papers and realized she had written several checks to McClellan for various home chores.
Police say the woman was scammed out of at least $3,600, including a $400 charge for washing dishes.
