DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The University of Dayton is allowing six students to remain in university-owned house where the fire department says the first floor is sinking.
The Dayton Daily News (http://bit.ly/SxXcIR ) reports the city fire department had told the students they'd have to leave because of the issue with the floor. But a university building maintenance official overruled the fire department.
The students reported the issue to the fire department after an email from the university Tuesday alerting them to new occupancy limits for student neighborhoods.
UD took that step after 11 students were displaced from two university-owned houses after the floors "shifted a few inches" during large gatherings Friday night. Nobody was hurt.
Students will receive the occupancy limits for their homes based on recommendations from a structural engineer.
