HONOLULU (AP) — Health officials say a 4-year-girl has died of the flu, marking this season's first death in Hawaii.

Shirley Cabasag told KHON-2 news (http://bit.ly/Ujrkr3) that her daughter Jianna asked for water and said she couldn't breathe before she died Sunday.

Cabasag says her family is devastated to lose the little girl, who was healthy one day and deathly ill the next.

Jianna was treated with Tamiflu twice after she had a fever on Friday, and had been vaccinated against the flu virus in October.

Cabasag says her daughter was sweating, her hands and feet were freezing and she was too tired to move before being rushed to the emergency room on Sunday.

Cabasag urges other parents to get the flu shot and be vigilant if children show signs of illness.
