MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Upper Midwest is entering a fourth straight day of frigid temperatures.
The bitter cold on Tuesday burst pipes and forced schools to close down, and homeless people scrambled to find shelter.
The National Weather Service says the coldest it got Monday was in Embarrass, Minn., where it hit 36 below. On Sunday it was 29 below in Babbitt, Minn.
Forecasters don't expect overnight temperatures to get that low, but they warn it's still frigid. And the bitter conditions are expected to continue into the weekend in the Midwest through the eastern half of the U.S.
