LOS ANGELES (AP) — The 12th season of "American Idol" is under way with new judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

Veteran judge Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest are back on Fox's singing contest, which kicked off with a two-hour episode Wednesday. A touted feud between pop divas Carey and Minaj produced a few minor fireworks.

Forty-one contestants survived the New York auditions to sing another day. The action moves to Chicago's auditions in Thursday's episode.
