MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a man abducted and raped a Central Michigan University student and set fire to a house where she fled.

Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski (MED'-ah-shess-kee) says 30-year-old Eric Ramsey was later killed by a deputy.

The abduction happened Wednesday night on the campus in Mount Pleasant, about 120 miles northwest of Detroit.

The sheriff says Ramsey drove the woman in her own vehicle to a home off campus and raped her. He says Ramsey put her back in the vehicle and pledged to kill her, but she escaped the moving vehicle and ran to a home.

He says Ramsey set the house on fire, but one of the residents put it out.

Ramsey was shot early Thursday by a deputy in Crawford County, more than 70 miles away.
