SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a 23-year-old Spearfish man found dead over the weekend a short distance from his abandoned vehicle likely died of hypothermia.

Lawrence County chief deputy Joe Harmon tells the Black Hills Pioneer (http://bit.ly/XBpeCr) that further testing is being conducted, but initial findings from Monday's autopsy of Jerald Krejci are consistent with hypothermia.

A snowplow operator found Krejci's body on Saturday. The man's vehicle had become stuck after sliding off a private road northwest of Spearfish.

A strong winter storm passed through the region on Friday and Saturday.
