MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — A Jackson County sheriff's spokeswoman says an 86-year-old southern Oregon man whose naked body was found in his front yard died of hypothermia.

Spokeswoman Andrea Carlson said Tuesday there was power to Harry Henderson's Medford home but the thermostat was turned off and space heaters had been unplugged.

Deputies reported the interior of the old home was so cold that liquid was frozen in a few bottles that were left out. The National Weather Service said the Monday night low in the area was 21 degrees.

A passer-by called for help after spotting Henderson about 9 a.m. Tuesday, lying nude in the yard with the home's front door standing open.

As hypothermia develops, victims may experience confusion and begin removing clothing. Carlson says deputies and a deputy medical examiner think that's what happened in this case.

Carlson says the man had not been dead long when he was found. Henderson lived alone.
