HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A prosecutor is recommending 10 years in prison for a former medical marijuana provider who struck a plea deal after he was convicted on eight drug and weapons charges.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Thaggard says in his sentencing memo Chris Williams should serve consecutive five-year sentences for the two charges to which he pleaded guilty.
Williams is facing a mandatory minimum sentence of five years, which is what his attorney is requesting from U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen.
Williams will be sentenced Feb. 1 for his role as head of Montana Cannabis' Helena greenhouse.
Montana Cannabis was among the marijuana providers raided in a 2011 federal crackdown.
Williams decided to go to trial but made a deal after the jury's verdict left him facing at least 80 years in prison.
