CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois' top doctor says the demand for flu shots has created some spot shortages, but he says that's good news because it means people are getting the message to protect themselves and those around them.
Illinois Department of Public Health Director LaMar Hasbrouck says there's no statewide shortage of vaccine. He spoke Monday in Chicago with Gov. Pat Quinn. Both men called on Illinois residents to get vaccinated against the flu, which is widespread and early this year.
Statewide, nearly 370 people have been admitted to hospital intensive care units with flu-related problems and 27 have died.
Flu vaccine is available at many drug stores, doctor's offices and public health clinics.
