ISU student diagnosed with tuberculosis

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — Officials at Idaho State University say a student who attended classes during the fall semester has been diagnosed with tuberculosis, a bacterial infection of the lungs.

The university and officials with the Southeastern Idaho Public Health department have notified students, faculty and staff who may have been exposed and recommended treatment.

Dr. Ron Solbrig with the ISU Student Health Center says tuberculosis is spread by breathing in germs that an infected person coughs into the air, and is not likely to be spread through brief, casual contact.

Symptoms include more than three weeks of cough, fever, night sweats and unexpected weight loss.
