CONYERS, Ga. (AP) — Officials in suburban Atlanta say a 6-year-old boy playing with a lighter started a blaze that killed four of his siblings and left his mother badly burned.
Daniel Morgan, Rockdale County Fire and Rescue chief, announced the findings at a press conference Friday night. The fire Tuesday night tore through a Conyers duplex, killing 8-month-old Deon Glass, 3-year-old Armoni Roberts, 7-year-old Dar'Shawn Glass and 9-year-old Ah'Dariya Glass.
The 6-year-old was thrown from a second-story window and survived the blaze, as did the children's grandmother. Their identities were not released.
Authorities say Reeba Glass, the children's mother, was hospitalized with burns over much of her body at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Officials say the fire started near a second-floor bathroom and the home had one non-working smoke detector on the first floor.
