Ohioan gets 3-year prison sentence in tub scalding

CINCINNATI (AP) — The caregiver for a developmentally disabled man has been sentenced to three years in prison for the bathtub scalding of his patient in southwest Ohio.

Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Ralph "Ted" Winkler says he imposed the sentence for patient endangering against 32-year-old Rodrick Boykins because of the severity of the injuries. The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/UB5axx ) reports prosecutors and the victim's family didn't ask for Boykins to go to prison.

Boykins was supposed to be caring for a 29-year-old man who needed special attention in 2010 when the man was badly burned, requiring months of hospitalization and more than $100,000 in medical bills.

Boykins apologized in court. He already has spent nearly two years in jail. He says he will appeal the sentence.
