ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — The Georgia Board of Regents has decided to restore $16 million in features for the planned Veterinary Medical Learning Center at the University of Georgia.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/VKo3kW) that the features had earlier been cut from the budget to save money.
Following the regents' decision this week, the $98 million project will once again include more classrooms, laboratories, barns and a horse-performance center.
The restored features are being financed outside of the normal bond-debt used to pay for most state buildings. Instead, the money comes from $5.6 million in donations, $2.5 million in reserves held by the veterinary hospital and an $8.2 million loan from the UGA Endowment and Loan Fund that will be repaid from fees charged to treat animals.
