SEATTLE (AP) — The University of Washington has hired Seattle University's nursing school dean to head the UW School of Nursing.

A recent consultant's report found that the UW nursing school suffered from low morale, internal strife and a lack of shared purpose among its faculty and staff.

The Seattle Times reports http://is.gd/8nst24 ) that the UW appointed Azita Emami on Monday, subject to approval by the regents.

Emami has been dean at Seattle University since 2008. During that time, the nursing school expanded its offerings and began a nurse midwifery specialty and a doctoral degree in nursing practice. The college recently began offering online hybrid programs.

The Times says former UW nursing dean Marla Salmon left the university in February, three months earlier than planned.
