CLEVELAND (AP) — Trains on a Cleveland commuter rail line are undergoing a makeover, and will wind up with fewer seats but more room for bicycles.
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority will spend $2.5 million this year remodeling the interiors of Red Line trains connecting the airport, downtown Cleveland and East Cleveland.
Four seats will be removed from each car to clear space for bikes, wheelchairs, strollers and luggage.
The transit agency's buses and trains carried a record 42,000 bicycles in 2012.
The agency tells The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer (http://bit.ly/1360mFP ) that crews will work on two cars at a time, with each car taking about two weeks to remodel. Forty cars in all will be updated.
