SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame is ready to begin what could be its last season in the Big East.
The Fighting Irish (12-1) open league play at home Saturday against Seton Hall (12-2, 1-0 Big East), then play Monday at No. 14 Cincinnati (13-1, 1-0). Coach Mike Brey said the goal now is the same goal the Irish set last March after being knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Xavier: win the first Big East title in school history.
The Irish are among three Big East teams who have yet to play a league game. Brey said the Irish are eager to get going. Guard Eric Atkins says it is important the Irish set the tone for the league season immediately against Seton Hall.
