PHOENIX (AP) — The first full day of testimony in a salacious murder case in Arizona featured a recorded telephone call between the defendant and the lead detective shortly after the victim's slashed body was discovered in a shower.

Jodi Arias is accused of shooting her motivational speaker ex-boyfriend in the face in 2008 and stabbing him nearly 30 times in what authorities describe as a jealous rage.

The 32-year-old Arias faces the death penalty if convicted in the death of 30-year-old Travis Alexander.

Jurors heard testimony Thursday from lead detective Esteban Flores and a recording of a conversation he had with Arias in June 2008. On the call, Arias denied being involved in the death and calmly told the detective that she had not seen Alexander in two months.
